- Ensure Safety:
- Prior to beginning, make sure all pressure within the keg is adequately relieved to prevent any unexpected discharge of beer or CO2 that could cause injuries.
- Prepare the Area:
- Securely position the keg in a stable spot to prevent movement during the spear removal. If possible, perform this operation on a non-slip surface.
- Use the Wrench to Unscrew the Spear:
- Attach a wrench to the spear. Carefully turn the wrench to unscrew the spear. Ensure you are turning in the correct direction as per the manufacturer’s guidelines.
- Unlock the Spear with the Flat A Keg Spear Key:
- Once unscrewed, use the Flat A/G keg spear key to unlock the pin lock. Insert the key into the keg spear’s designated slot.
- Pull the handle from the key to engage the unlocking mechanism.
- Gently turn the key along with the keg spear to ensure the locking pin is fully disengaged.
- Remove the Spear:
- With the lock disengaged, carefully pull up on the spear to remove it from the keg.
- If resistance is felt, verify that all locking mechanisms are fully released and check again for any residual pressure.
- Inspect and Clean:
- After removal, inspect the spear and the keg opening for any signs of wear, damage, or debris. Clean both the spear and the keg neck to ensure they are free of contaminants.
- Safety Check:
- Handle the removed spear with caution to avoid injury from sharp edges or pressurized components.
Tips:
- Always refer to the manufacturer’s manual for specific instructions related to your keg and spear type as mechanisms can vary.
- Wear protective gloves and safety goggles to shield against potential splashes or sharp edges.
